Each story as well as each work of art has a beginning and an end. This is how the incredible fiction of the VGDA is constituted.Henceforth, the VGDA is working at maximum revs. It delivers beautiful stories, employs a few surfers, and counts a few friends and collectors of its production (link with the lists of distribution). As you might have noticed (if you read everything), the title of the second exhibition in the gallery Brachot in Paris was "Beginnings of works". The latest, is still on as we write, untill november 28, 1998 in the gallery Art : Concept (Paris). In spite of the title missing on the invitation card the exhibition is called:
"D floor : Defenses and Secrets, (at) last works".

A final show that is presenting developments of new concepts, tested life-size. In other words, the exhibition of a prototype. There will be no more constructions in 1.1 scale. Virtually, and specifically here on the site thanks to you, the VGDA will continue to develop considering that one might feel the necessity or the need for correcting mistakes, completing aspects (such as crèche (special children' pages) or such as the entertainment of personel and visitors (see pages of games)) and the lack of time to set up the documents of the VGDA's foundation.

We will now engage a precise procedure to analyse this exhibition. First and foremost, before entering the gallery one can notice a construction that reminds us of a small wooden hut.

In fact, it has nothing to do with it. It is only a life-size model of a secret agent's office belonging to the "D" floor (VGDA Defense and Secrets).

The outside is covered with a black "polyurethane" painting used for the production of blackboards. This surface is drawn and scribbled with graffitis of images simulating types of architectures that are not related to an office purpose.In the fiction, this surface is meant to embellish and to modify the space around the huts. One can imagine messages left for the personel and agents or simply decoration that might adorn the floor that is by nature oppressive. Near Christmas time, some reindeers and Santa Claus will appear in a decor of snow.

But it is not forbidden to write the actions and the story of the VGDA. This last remark might explain the image drawn at the very beginning of the exhibition.It recalls the "information centre" at the entrance of the kibboutz "Ein Harod". It is a shrif that is to say a wooden house, the first construction of the kibboutz inhabitants. They are a kind endangered constructions recalling the eastern european culture of the very first kibboutzniks. Not surprisingly, the VGDA and its author Niek, "kibboutzniek", have tackled a work on nostalgia, memory and the end of a historical record. But among all of you, who can read through the intention and dissecte the subtelties. This is once again some far-fetched conceptual art, so-called Elite art. Don't worry, no more than two persons hold the thread of this story. It was a necessity to stop in order to make a summary.If you belong to the people who read this story from the beginning up to now you are heading to the right direction.

However, if we suppose that one can ignore everything about fiction or about the context and the inscription of the work of art there are still many things to look at .First, another universe via a transformed place thanks to a do-it yourself type of light structure. Something that has never been seen yet. This is art. Second, the spectators can play with many sculptures.

Shall we insist on the form, the composition and other aspects of contemporary sculptures. No, you either like them or hate them, it does nothing to you (by the way, have you seen the crate made with a Tivoli's stone that looks like marble ?).
Third, there is a wide range of sketches. At this occasion, the Great BIg Sketch (GBS) is exhibited as a fake ceiling.

Of course for a view in due form, it would have been better to hang it on the wall so that you would be able to percieve its qualities. A beautiful chalk drawing decorates the office wall .

It is a souvenir from Pougues-Les-Eaux and the works of the VGDA "e" floor (anarchy) outside the walls.But how can we take such an academic drawing as a joke. A hint refering to what exactly ?No, take it as it is. It is not fixed and the colours can still change.Yes, this is the radicality of the VGDA. You have the impression that the world is showing itself without incident, one congratulates you. Keep on watching TF1 (ITV in UK), utter your silly thoughts and cut-and-dried opinions at a café counter between friends.The VGDA does not give a shit. From the very first page it announced that it toughens its intention.For us nothing is fixed and certainly not the drawings. To grasp the world, one has to be in the secret. The aim is to open the door of the hut and embrace in one look what constitutes the life and the work of a secret agent. Because, as many visitors in the exhibition, you have thought that this work is dealing with a feeling based on the frustration of not entering the hut, nor seeing what is inside and that the work consisted in another attempt to make one feels the experience of the impossibility to penetrate reality.It has nothing to do with that; it is dealing with resistance. A resistance of nothing. No object, nor drawing can resist the tentation to infiltrate reality. You do not need the power of Mitch ouragan to sweep away everything.

Here is the proof : one click and will be able to enter inside the office but you will not have the illusion to discover any secret what so ever. You are only part of the lucky few that have seen the clever set up of a secret agent's office of the VGDA "D" floor.

This is inside, the presentation act, electric blue carpet, toilet cover, ready for use, in gold skai , a video framed in the wall, showing interviews (who and what do we talk about ? can we find out about it ?) three miniature tables put side by side form a potential bed, a cupboard can be used as a video closet, and there is also a pink sleeping bag.A gun-watering can is hung on the ceiling for bathing. In the left angle of the toilet, there is an air drainer in use. An agent from the administration has the right to cultivate his/ her lung cancer or even to sweat as he/she likes.
We may find a few cables and electrical multiplugs.

Beautiful would not be the appropriate word, efficient would be overemphasized, it is rather just enough to spend public finances so that the mob does not complain about inadequat spendings. Was it necessary to put so much effort to avoid seeing all this and consequently depriving the public of the gallery ? Certainly not. The essential to know is that the VGDA broadcasts videos recorded by people (men and women) who talk about their works with a single interlocutor i.e; the author of this text.

They agreed on the principal for the recorded interview in the conference room (i.e; the third prototype) in the Villa Medicis garden in Roma in 1996, they have not authorised the broadcastings rights for their discussion. VGDA and the "D" floor do not need their opinion nor their agreement to broadcast secretly the speeches and the thoughts of these guests.
As for you, in spite of the obvious franckness, you still do not know who is speaking.You would not give a damn most probably... and you are right; the essential is the most important thing in life, so why digging about in other people lives.
All the more so since one does not speak about sex nor about people but about the action of creating.
A secret agent as well as the institution attached to him/her know that it is necessary to dissect in minute details and to analyze discourses of freedom so that they can be delimited in order to forbid them, manipulate them, censore them and eventually kill them and their authors.

The National Front (BP in UK) (blasted the one who clicks!), tackles the "noÙsphere" because it is a necessity to eradicate ideas before attacking liberty .
Integrists which ever side they are on first attack the ones who think and speak out. Because the ones who spread a load of bullshit at bar counter as well as TV idiots are already on the right side of the line. You have always thought that poets, artists, authors, in brief that contemporean creators were not influent at all, so umpowerful and useless that it is best to leave them alone instead of wasting energy and political words.Don't be mistaken, Misters Millon, Soisson, Blanc and the brown white red nuisance show a great interest in the works of the "D" floor. As soon as they can, they will build sheds similar to the proptype presented here. On the front, they will draw the symbol of liberty in blue, white and red but one will be able to hear screams via the wind extractor during the pauses in the political discourse broadcasted on TV.
Some blood will spurts on the walls, the gun-watering can will attempt to clear out the most difficult blood stains, the toilets recipient will spread abroad the last thoughts of drawned people. They will put away their executioner tools in the cupboard. They will wash their hands in the sink, they will eat a mint leaf to remove their bad breath to abuse cleaning lady who will keep her mouth shut anyway because she has not got legal papers.

So you still want to peer through the secrets ? You would like to be on the Defense side ? Make yourself known and put down register the broadcast list : VGDA workers, women or men. Maybe after a few electronic mail you will be allowed to share others views and you might be invitated to organize resistance.

Just a few more words before it is too late; the VGDA will mainly stop because democracy (in its operations) must be shelved for a few years. It will be necessary to walk in uncovered, within the illegal world of the Defense and the Secrets. Even this site and everything you might have seen or read should only represent the visible part, in other words, the decoration of the box, the coloured drawing in chalk, now the part has begun to be submerged and maybe thanks to you it might inevitably send the Titanic to the bottom.
